Looking for PSP music downloads? Not everyone who uses PSP (Play Station Portable -okay, I guess y’all know that  — but I was always taught never to ‘assume’ anything!) has even gotten into music downloads for PSP yet, but it is a popular area that is growing like topsy — along with the pre-eminent sector of PSP games downloads and burgeoning PSP movie downloads.

I intend to include some tips and info about getting music onto your PSP but will also keep you updated on PSP games and videos too — silly not to! ;)

Whether you are into Pop, Rock, Jazz, Hip-hop, Trance, Lounge, Psycho, Chillout, Disco…or whatever — there is an expanding choice of music out there for PSP to enhance your handheld enjoyment :D

Avoid Dangerous Freebies!

It doesn’t really pay-off to look for free music dowloads for PSP, as these, like free PSP game downloads often come at the price of downloading other more ‘iniquitous’ (evil!) stuff onto your PC that can give you a big headache. The quality of freebies is also often poor and make your music dowloads for PSP less than pleasurable listening.

There are, however, some reputable — and fast growing services that do offer PSP music, games and video downloads for a small fee. In fact you can do the math and when you reckon that for, say as little as US$35, you can get a year of unlimited downloads it means individual music tracks, games and movies truly cost ‘peanuts’! So hardly worth looking for illegal, and risky downloads that could trash your PC (or Apple) all for the sakes of a ‘handful of dollars’. I’ll post any useful links here (see below).

First of the FAQ’s

The most ‘frequently asked question’ when it comes to downloading music onto PSP is probably: “How do I get my music on my PSP?” — so it seems a good question to kick off with trying to answer here:

Well there are basically two ways to get music on your PSP. The first method is to connect your PSP to your PC using USB cable (pretty cheap to buy from PC and PSP accessory suppliers if you don’t have one kicking around).

When you have connected your PSP to your PC, then go to on the PSP menu and click on Settings then select USB Mode and click X (that’s ‘Circle’ on Japanese PSP models). Your PC should then automatically recognise the PSP.

An alternative option is to use a Sony ‘Memory Stick PRO Duo’ card reader. To do this, take out the Memory Card from the PSP (by pushing it into the PSP gently until you hear a click) and it will pop out. Place it into the card reader, which should be linked to or integral to your PC, and your PC should recognise it straight away.

Now, go to My Computer, in your PC start options, and open the PSP folder, you should then see a folder called ‘PSP’. Go into this folder and you will see more sub-folders already labelled ‘PHOTO’, ‘GAME’, ‘SAVEDATA’ and ‘MUSIC’. (If you do not see these folders then you could create them for future use — most likely they will be auto-generated though).

Go into the ‘MUSIC’ folder. This is where any music you want will be dowloaded to. All you should need to do is ‘drag and drop’ your music from your PC desktop or music folder, into this folder.

When you disconnect your PSP, or replace your memory stick in your PSP after removal from the PC, you should see that your music is now on your PSP ready and waiting to play.

(NOTE: If you are using firmware of 2.80 or above, the directory for music is slightly different:  2.80+ MUSIC directory: F:\MUSIC.)
